Andie's Song

Written for my wife, Andie, who is my love, soul mate and #1 fan. This is from my CD “Ventana”. Recorded at Heid Audio, Aspinwall, PA. Engineered by Dino DiStefano. Ken Karsh: guitars, Max Leake: piano & keyboard, Kurt Lorence: bass, Joe Waslousky: drums, George Jones: congas, percussion, John Rampolla: percussion

In Retrospect

I wrote this initially as a composition assignment for Dr. Joseph Jenkins. He had me write a 12 tone row, retrograde it, and then harmonize the result. Hence the title (In RETROspect). This is also from my new CD. Max Leake: piano, Dwayne Dolphin: bass, Rodger Humphries: drums, George Jones: congas. Recorded at Heid Audio, Aspinwall, PA. Engineered by Dino DiStefano

Ventana

Co-written with vocalist Bobby McFerrin, “Ventana” was originally called “Karshdarn”. This is yet another track from my new CD. Max Leake: piano, Brian Stahurski: bass, Billy Kuhn: drums, George Jones: congas, Victor Provost: steel pan, Steve Hawk: trumpet, Eric DeFade: saxophone. Recorded at Heid Audio, Aspinwall, PA. Engineered by Dino DiStefano

Blackbird

This is from my CD “Ventana”. This is my treatment of Paul McCartney’s masterpiece. I originally conceived this arrangement (the melody) when I was 19 years old for a student who wasn’t fond of playing jazz guitar solo arrangements. I recorded this at Ridgewood Studios with Bill Purse producing & engineering. I used a beautiful Collings Dreadnought owned by Bill

Solo Concert, Bremen (by Keith Jarrett, adapted for guitars by Ken Karsh)

I have always loved this solo piano improv by Keith Jarrett. I managed to record it as a duo with myself with two guitars. This piece (presented in its entirety) demonstrates my Brockman 005 “little guitar.”
